Kids, Say No to Coffee Pods

Look, I'll be the first to admit that I am not some coffee genius. That's the purview of our head roaster. I am also not a coffee snob. You like your coffee black? Great, good for you! You like it loaded up with cream and sugar? Great, good for you! Cold, hot, light, dark... it makes no matter. We are all part of the same coffee-loving tribe.
But I will wholeheartedly make ONE exception to my rule of tolerance: disposable coffee pods. Kids, just say no! 🙅♂️
We've all heard about the negative environmental effects of these pods, and over the years many manufacturers have tried, to varying degrees of success, to create more eco-friendly designs. However, I'm not getting on my high-horse right now about the environment, in particular.
Simply put, disposable pod coffee is just bad. Even the creator of the pod system, John Sylvan, regrets his invention. He said as much back in 2015. "[He was] 'absolutely mystified' by his product's popularity in homes."

Here at Everette's Coffee, we always say, "Once you grind, the clock starts ticking." Not exactly rocket science, but it bears repeating!
Our general rule of thumb is two weeks. Whatever you grind at home, for example, should be finished within two weeks. After that, there is a serious dip in freshness, even if you keep the grounds in an airtight container. (Coffee purists will say five minutes. Grind it and brew it within five minutes, or it's not worth it at all!)
When you purchase disposable coffee pods, you don't know if it was ground and packaged seven days, seven weeks or seven months ago. Coffee has a long shelf life, so it's still "good" after all that time, hypothetically speaking. It won't become rotten in the vein of a dairy product. But you'll generally be drinking stale, weak and boring coffee.
Pods might be quick and efficient, but they're bad for the environment, bad for your wallet and bad for your taste buds. Just say no to coffee pods!
Then, after you say no, come shop for a bag of fresh, whole bean coffee here. 😎
