Better Coffee in the Workplace

Recently, we wrote about ditching coffee pods. Despite our protestations, we aren't ignorant to the reality of the situation -- especially when it comes to coffee in the workplace.

According to market research firm Grand View Research, "The global coffee pods market size was estimated at $38.01 billion in 2023 and is projected to reach $58.19 billion by 2030, growing at a CAGR of 6.2% from 2024 to 2030."

We get it, we do! When you have 100 people in one space with 100 different personalities and preferences, it's often easiest to default to the simplest and fastest thing. But is the simplest and fastest thing always the best thing? We'd argue, frequently, it is not.

A recent study, conducted by researchers at Bielefeld University in Germany and the University of Warwick in England, and referenced in an article by SciTechDaily, found a positive correlation between morning coffee and happiness:

"Participants reported being happier and more energetic on mornings when they had consumed coffee compared with mornings at the same time when they had not. The researchers also identified a connection between caffeine intake and reduced negative feelings such as sadness or irritability."

You might say, "It's just the caffeine!" We've heard that. Anecdotally, we've also heard from decaf drinkers about similar mood-boosting effects. And we know that simple things, like starting your day by making the bed, are positively correlated with improved focus and productivity.

Regardless of your belief in the science, wouldn't you rather take a chance on GOOD coffee leading to MORE happiness and BETTER results in your day?
